Well, the second production is over and I feel it is safe to say that it's definitely getting better!
We stayed in the same roles as week 1 so I personally felt I had a bit more direction this week and I knew more about what I needed to do. I think this was a common feeling among the group as everything seemed to be a lot more organised and it ran a lot smoother.
Monday was similar to last week, the production team worked as a group to determine what stories needed to be edited and what packages we could expect to come in on the Tuesday. Between us we managed to get all the feature/sports stories edited and put on the Winchester Journalism website.
Tuesday was again spent editing and for some of the time in the afternoon Rich and I taught a handful of the first year students about the studio. We started by showing them the basics on camera and then we set up the equipment and got them to film and present the 'Whats On' feature which is going up on the website.
I enjoyed doing it as I feel it furthered my learning and helped refresh me on the equipment which I haven't used for a while.
Then the big day, production Wednesday!
I nominated myself to be on script duty which I started early and felt like I had totally under control...for a little while at least!
As the day wore on, it became clear that getting links/in and out words from reporters for their packages was a lot harder than I originally thought. The editing and rewriting of some of the links took time and the arrival of a few late packages meant we were pushed right to the end, meaning we didn't have much time for rehearsals. However we did get the script and running order in sync and delivered on time which was my main concern.
The whole package was a lot more polished and content-wise it was a lot stronger than last week. However there is still plenty of work to be done before the live bulletin next week. I have also been given the responsibility of communicating with the director to make sure all the live output runs smoothly next week.
Should be fun!
