The Winchester Guildhall is full to the brim with expectant fans for solo artist Frank Turners biggest ever hometown show.
The atmosphere reached boiling point as Turner hit the stage to rapturous applause, launching straight in to new song Live Fast Die Old off his new album Poetry of the Deed.
"This is the biggest ever indoor event that Winchester has ever seen" Turner announces with a sense of smug satisfaction. Cheap digs at Southampton and Portsmouth along with a few amusing stories about his childhood highlight the fact that Turner is a true Winchester boy through and through.
His set tonight is an equal mix of old and new and he seamlessly manoeuvres through fan favourites such as The Real Damage, Substitute and Long Live The Queen.
One of the highlights of the show (including this authors favourite) comes in the form of Smiling at Strangers on Trains, a homage to Turner's previous band, Million Dead (check them out here)
Sections of his set are broken up by passages of witty banter and light-hearted conversation and Turner never once releases his grip upon his mesmerised audience.
As the show draws to a close and the final chords of Photosynthesise ring out, it is hard to think of a reason not to love Frank Turner and I think this entire audience can head home safe in the knowledge that they have witnessed one of the greatest live performances that Winchester has ever seen.
